Brewing Water Quality

Water quality is very important when it comes to brewing coffee. Mineral content, chlorine and other chemicals can affect the taste of your brew. However, there are ways you can improve the water used to make your coffee.

Water heaters tend to precipitate minerals out of your water supply – when the cold water comes in contact with the water heater’s heating source. If you don’t flush the sediment in your water heater regularly, you’ll end up with a layer of precipitated mineral deposits inside the bottom of your heater tank. This will cause the heater to run longer to make hot water, and eventually could lead to a leak if the bottom of the tank cracks due to excessive heat.

Draw hot water from your tap and allow it to cool for a few hours before pouring into your coffee maker; this will allow chlorine and other odours to dissipate into the atmosphere. Also, it’s important to clean your coffee machine regularly to reduce the build-up of calcium deposits.
